How We Safeguard Your Privacy
We know that keeping your personal information private is important to you. That’s why New York Life* wants you to understand how we protect the information you share with us.

We have built our business on a foundation of integrity, honesty and trust. These values are reflected in our longstanding commitment to protect your privacy.

Our Privacy Pledge
To meet our customers' needs and provide you with high-quality life insurance and annuity products through the AARP Life Insurance Program and the AARP Lifetime Income Program ("the Programs"), we gather and maintain many types of information. To preserve your privacy, we pledge to:

  • Collect only the information we need to help us deliver superior products and services;
  • Collect only the information we need to help us deliver superior products and services;
  • Protect against unauthorized access to your information, including through the Internet;
  • Refuse to disclose your health information to third parties for marketing purposes;
  • Refuse to sell your information to outside mailing list companies or telemarketers;
  • Require companies that service your insurance product to protect your information in accordance with strict privacy standards;
  • Give you a choice with regard to having your information shared with AARP and its subsidiaries, AARP Services Inc. and AARP Financial, for purposes unrelated to the Programs; and
  • Update you on our privacy practices at least once a year.
Our Information Practices
Our policies and procedures protect the privacy of current and former customers as well as consumers who request additional information about the Programs from New York Life.

Types of Information We Collect
In the normal course of business we collect:
  • Information requested on applications and other forms (including name, address, date of birth and social security number);
  • Information provided to us by AARP and its subsidiaries (such as member identification number);
  • Data about your transactions (such as the type of product you purchased);
  • Information from outside sources such as public records;
  • Information you provide to us on our Web site, such as when you fill out an online form. We also store information temporarily in your computer’s memory using a “cookie”. Our cookie is used to temporarily store information such as your name and address so that you don't have to re-enter it during your visit. The cookie we place on your computer is also used to show us the source from which you entered our site. This cookie is automatically removed from your computer after 30 days or you can delete it yourself at anytime;
  • Health information collected with your permission when you apply for our underwritten life insurance products.
Safeguarding Your Information
We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that meet state and federal regulations. Access to customer information is limited to people who need the information to perform their job responsibilities. How We Use Your Information
New York Life may share all of the information we collect about you as allowed by law, including with non-affiliated companies like AARP Financial that perform services on our behalf. These services include:
  • Administering and marketing our products; and
  • Quality control and measuring member participation and satisfaction with the Programs
We may disclose information we collect about you when required by law, such as to:
  • Respond to a subpoena;
  • Respond to a subpoena;
  • Prevent fraud;
  • Comply with legal requirements; or
  • Respond to a government inquiry.

We will never share your health information with third parties, AARP or its subsidiaries for marketing purposes.

IMPORTANT PRIVACY CHOICES
New York Life respects your privacy choices. You have the option to tell us not to share your information as follows:
  • • With AARP or its subsidiaries for purposes unrelated to the Programs. These purposes include sharing with AARP and its subsidiaries to allow them to analyze members’ needs and interests generally. AARP and its subsidiaries use non-member information to solicit memberships. AARP subsidiaries may also share your information with other AARP service providers in order, for example, to inform you of other AARP member benefits and services that may be of interest to you. These AARP service providers include other insurance companies, financial services companies and providers of consumer products and services.
If you do not want us to share your information in this manner, you must complete a form and return it to us. But before choosing, keep in mind that the sharing of this information allows AARP and its subsidiaries to evaluate member interests and provide members with information about member benefits and services that may meet their particular needs.

Also some states have adopted an “opt in” policy. When you live in an “opt in” state, we will not share your personal information unless you give us permission to do so.

If you own more than one AARP life insurance or annuity product from New York Life, and you notify us of this preference for one product, it will apply to all AARP life insurance and annuity products from New York Life that you own. If you own a product jointly with another owner and one joint owner tells us not to share information that choice will also apply to the other owner(s). You only need to tell us once. We will continue to honor your choice until you cancel or change it. Also keep in mind that you may inform us of your choice at any time by writing to the address mentioned below. Please keep this notice for your records

We will follow the privacy law in your state if that law is different than the policy described in this notice.

Keeping Up-To-Date With Our Privacy Policy

This privacy policy takes effect September 1, 2008. We will inform you of our privacy policy at least once a year for as long as you are a customer. You can also review the current privacy policy on our Web site (www.nylaarp.com) or you can contact us for a copy by writing to:

*"New York Life" and "we" refer to New York Life Insurance Company (NYLIC) and its wholly owned subsidiary New York Life Insurance and Annuity Corporation (NYLIAC). NYLIC underwrites the AARP Life Insurance Program. NYLIAC is the issuer of the annuity product for the AARP Lifetime Income Program.
This Privacy Notice is specific to the AARP Life Insurance Program and the AARP Lifetime Income Program. If you own any other New York Life product, New York Life will protect your personal information it collects in connection with that product in accordance with the privacy notice that applies to that other product.

NOTE: Because you are already an AARP member, you may still receive mailings from AARP and other providers of AARP member benefits and services. If you do not wish to receive promotional mailings from other AARP service providers you must contact AARP directly by calling 1-888-687-2277.
